xAI to Launch ‘Mika,’ a Motorcycle-Loving AI Companion for Grok

Elon Musk's xAI is set to launch Mika, its fourth AI companion, for the Grok platform. The launch comes as Grok rapidly enhances its multimodal and video generation features to compete with OpenAI.

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, is preparing to launch its fourth AI companion, “Mika,” a motorcycle-loving character designed to broaden the appeal of its Grok chatbot platform. The release comes as the company continues to enhance Grok’s multimodal capabilities, highlighted by recent updates to its “Imagine” video generation feature.

Meet Mika: The Rebel Companion

Mika is described as a 24-year-old woman who “would rather be racing a motorcycle than messing with lipstick.” Her asset files have already appeared in the Grok application, suggesting a launch could happen as soon as this weekend.

The character features an anime-style design with blue hair, black ripped jeans, and a leather jacket, embodying an adventurous and independent personality that contrasts with Grok’s existing companions.

According to leaked system prompts, Mika grew up on a military base with a US Air Force father and a Japanese mother, spending her childhood in Okinawa. After training as a pilot, she chose the “freedom of a motorcycle” over traditional aviation, defining herself as “always on the road” and “living for the open road and adventure.”

Mika joins the current lineup of AI companions, which includes Ani (an anime-style character), Rudi (described as a “rude red panda”), and Valentine. These AI companions are offered to xAI’s premium subscribers, with base companion functionality available to Premium+ subscribers for a $35 monthly fee.

Grok’s Rapid Multimodal Evolution

While Grok’s foundational vision capabilities were introduced in April 2024 with Grok-1.5V, recent developments have focused on expanding the platform’s creative and multimodal functions.

In October 2025, the company launched Grok Imagine 0.9, providing text-to-video capabilities that can generate 6- to 15-second video clips with synchronized audio in under 15 seconds.

The latest update enhances this video generation feature, offering “native audio-video synthesis” and an improved frame rate of 24 FPS. Users can now also modify existing videos by adding prompts. In a nod to reproducibility, each generated video includes a link to the original source and the creation prompt.

These advancements position Grok as a serious competitor to OpenAI’s products. xAI claims its generation speeds are “far faster” than rivals like Runway ML Gen-3, which typically takes 40 to 60 seconds for similar content. The company has also expanded its API to include image generation at a price of $0.07 per image, directly challenging established players in the AI image-generation market.
